Georgia On My Mind

Posted on 20. Oct, 2011 by in News

We recently returned home from Hilton Head Island in SC. We
had a wonderful time. It was very relaxing, laid back and friendly. Oh, did I mention
the alligators? Our cottage, 2 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths, living room, kitchen and
dining room; and a porch with a rocking chair was nestled in its own little
cul-de-sac with moss hung trees and golf courses. Oh, did I mention the

What’s with the rocking chair? Many of the people had been
long time retired and just want to play golf and relax. Speaking personally, I
may be retired but not that retired!! HHI is definitely a golfer’s paradise.
Don’t forget the alligators. There were signs posted: Do not feed the
alligators. Needless to say I was not about to feed the alligator. But we did
taste his cousin…eek! Been there, done that, don’t have to do it again. Yes,
they do have alligator on the menu at Roast fish and Cornbread. We actually saw
one of the alligators we were not to feed. He or she was lying there in the sun
on the golf course.

Did I mention Georgia is on my mind? We did not know how
close Savannah, Georgia was to HHI. It was only 30 miles away. My husband and I
decided to visit the port city and the gateway to the Savannah River.  We took a trolley tour to see Savannah which
charmed us with its tree-filled squares and perfectly preserved historic
buildings and its unforgettable natural beauty and its southern hospitality.
While there we ate at Paula Deen’s restaurant. Ms. Paula was not there.

We were so charmed by this beautiful historical city that we
are planning to return next year. What stood out the most are the families we
encountered. Whether it was at a restaurant or a shopping mall, or just during
the tourist thing, there was no one texting, talking on the phone, etc. It was
people talking to people and listening.
